The next Sunflower River work party will be Saturday, May 17th, 11 a.m. to sundown, lunch included as usual.

The theme this month is wrapping up projects that are half-done. :-) Priority projects include:

• install the gate on the livestock area so we can let the chickens roam without letting them into the garden

Our Saturday work party was the most successful work party we've ever hosted! We accomplished every goal we set ourselves for the day--the major as well as minor ones!

• We cleared the area we'll be gardening (which yarrowkat has calculated to be 1/5 acres.) of sticks and trash.

In February, there are two work parties planned involving sunflowerriver:

• On Saturday, February 16th, the Sunflower River crew will be over at Ironwood Farms helping to build fences for new livestock this spring. We're trading a work day with Chris and Jenny to borrow their tractor for tilling our vegetable garden. Chris and Jenny are also interested in trading ( Read more... )

So, we are still planning on having a work-day on Saturday, in spite of the forecast for rain/snow. The deck is built but not yet insulated, and so the work we will be doing is cutting the thin insulation, stapling that on, attaching a layer of wire mesh 1"+ above it (between joists), applying the batt insulation, and capping that with a final ( Read more... )

HUGE THANK YOUS to everybody who came out to see the place and helped do stuff at Sunflower River this weekend! We got a truly astonishing amount of work done--more than any of us expected to finish in one day!
